Swords in the Movies
General No Comments »Swords have been a part of cinema almost since the first movie was ever created. Some of the oldest films on record follow the exploits of swashbuckling heroes like Zorro and Robin Hood, and those characters both have swords in common. Why is this? It is because swords and sword fighting are exciting to watch – it is akin to a deadly ballet. If the choreography is done well, this translates into an exciting action sequence. You can see great examples in movies such as Highlander, Star Wars, The Last Samurai, and Lord of the Rings. This is something that will undoubtedly continue to be seen in movies. However, it should be noted that there is a huge difference between movie fighting and the type of swordplay that warriors of ages past engaged in. Under no circumstances should someone who is untrained in stage combat try to conduct a “mock swordfight.”
